A Message from Bill Scott, 2008-2009 OIF President
$1 MILLION + $1
Optimist International is one of the greatest civic organizations in the world – and the only one named for the philosophy it cultivates. One of my goals as President of the Optimist International Foundation is to increase membership of our organization. All you have to do is ask. I do not know why more people do not realize how easy asking really is.
Of course, we have goals for the Foundation, too, but I have asked every District Foundation Representative to promise me that he or she will reach out and gain at least one new Member during the Optimist year, and none have refused. Every DFR who fulfills that promise will receive a special OIF Presidential Citation from me.
Optimist International and the Optimist International Foundation are two separate organizations legally and fiscally. Optimist International defines the programs and the Optimist International Foundation does its best to finance them. But even though we are two separate organizations, we are one in mind and spirit.
As far as the Foundation is concerned, since we do finance the programs of Optimist International, we are obligated to work hard through your Governors, District Foundation Representatives, Club Foundation Representatives, and the total membership to get our information all the way to the grass roots.
In recognition of the theme of our International President Don Sievers -- “Give Me Five for the Kids” – we have five goals for this year in unrestricted gifts:
| 1. | 3,700 Dime-A-Day gifts | $135,050 |
| 2. | 875 Century Circle gifts | 87,500 |
| 3. | 375 total retained & 5/district new Presidents Club members | 140,000 |
| 4. | 185 Christian D. Larson Partners | 185,000 |
| 5. | 370 Club gifts totaling at least | 452,451 |
| TOTAL | $1,000,001 |
It will take all of us working together to achieve this goal. I would like to congratulate each DFR and CFR in advance for having accepted their position. Having been invited to serve is a compliment. Honors, of course, come after service, not before. I have every confidence that everyone will work hard and earn their honors. The greatest gratification we have is seeing our youth become good people. Your gifts will help make that possible.
Thanks and God bless.
